Disney Imaginations 2016: Monster Recruitment Rally

Nadia Kim and Stephanie Burtner teamed up to answer WDI's prompt: create an experience that can travel to small towns, be set up within a day, and that families and friends could enjoy together.  Our project made it to the finals, for the 25th anniversary of the wonderful Imaginations competition! It was an incredible experience.  Here is our final presentation, but first, some words from Disney:

The project was conceived by the California State University, Fullerton Team and created for the 2016 Walt Disney Imagineering’s Imaginations Design Competition. This project is the sole property of Walt Disney Imagineering and all rights to use these ideas are exclusive to Walt Disney Imagineering. The competition is a way for students and recent graduates to showcase their talents and for Walt Disney Imagineering to identify new talent

Monsters University and Monster Inc. have teamed up to recruit new young monsters to try their hand at becoming scarers.  Guests can explore the Scarefloor and the use doors to visit the campus of Monsters University, and meet other monsters, including some exclusive to this event that are similar to the monsters in the guests' local folklore. One of the main features is the Scare Games. Guests register their party as a team and play each game to win points.  Guests then redeem their points for prizes. Don't forget to visit the Abominable Snowman, whose door is accidentally left out! He's got delicious snowcones (in flavors other than lemon)!

I was the Team Leader for this project, and did illustrations, concept design, brainstorming and concept development. Some of the thumbnails, process, and illustrations (with notes) I worked on here:

Astra

Astra (tentative title) is a themed pavilion that could be placed inside a theme park or act as a stand-alone indoor experience.  This project is inspired by retro-futurism and 50's space age design.

The backstory: Astra is a fictional space port on a distant planet.  Astra is home to scientists and their families and is now open to the public.  Guests can help with the exploration and documentation of the planet and it's alien wildlife on different attractions.  Guests can also enjoy the leisure floor built for the port's residents, which features a mini amusement park. The experience is literally topped off with a restaurant on the top of the port.

This personal project is currently in progress.

Imaginations 2015

These are some illustrations I did for the Imaginations Competition in the fall of 2014 for the 2015 competition.  The prompt, summed up, was to create a fun transportation experience within a city. My team (Kate McIntosh, Candace Brabant, and myself) choose San Diego and self-driving cars as our mode of transportation.  Our experience for guests was that Edna Mode from the Incredibles was recruiting them to be the supers for the day to ensure San Diego's great future. She would show them a skyline of a decent looking San Diego, but guests can make it better by completing her quests, which was mostly gathering intel and information around San Diego, allowing guests to explore and learn about the city whilst having fun! Yay adventures!

The Batwell's Mansion

The Batwell's Mansion was designed as a themed hotel to be near a theme park or a stand-alone hotel any where in the country (or outside the country, with the monsters themed after the culture's mythology and folklore). It can even be a stand alone attraction or restaurant inside a theme park, just minus the hotel rooms.
